is a designer / woodworker & is the founder and director of The Level Up Project
Through each of the entities Two Tree Studios (founded 2017) & education initiative The Level Up Project (founded 2020), founder / director Allison E Samuels (she/they) pursues a regenerative design practice. Beyond material sourcing & waste management, they strive to create work, and build systems, rooted in eco-sociological equity within their industry.
Their East Williamsburg-based woodworking & design studio produces handmade sculptural furniture, lighting and vessels. They specialize in hyper-local, consciously-sourced materials, and experimental surface treatments. Samuels welcomes commissions, collaborations, and studio visits!
“I feel strongly that knowledge, skill, wealth & resources are gained through compounded privilege. It is my responsibility to first acknowledge my own privileges, and then work to chip away at barriers I can see for others.
After many years of working in a field that was not designed for me, I've learned how hard it is to enter and build a business from scratch. It is only because of the many privileges I do have, that I've been able to make it this far.
Therefore, I hope to remove barriers that I have faced, by sharing my acquired resources & networks with transparency, with the hope that this industry can expand for more people.”
