The details

Whether you will be rendering your work to 3D print final models, or using the software to help communicate your ideas to clients, this Level 1 course will offer you the software skills needed to render your own designs independently, and is the perfect add-on to traditional analog design.

You will learn all essential tools and techniques on how to turn your sketches into a final interactive 3D model with renderings with digital software, focused mainly on Rhino 8. Built for people with no prior experience with 3D modeling, this eight week workshop will cover multiple aspects of digital visualization, including:

A comprehensive overview of Rhino 8

  • How to take a 2D drawing/sketch into a 3D digital model

  • How to apply material qualities to digital models

  • How to create visual imagery "renderings", in different styles

Prerequisites

Hi, it’s me, Ivy!
Here to explain what all these prereq’s are about

In advance of our first session, please have the following prepared:

  • Watch the following videos about introduction to Rhino 8 and 3D modeling

    • Windows users, please watch:

      • Windows | Interface Basics (5 min)

      • Windows | Navigation and Display (3 min)

      • Windows | Object Types (4 min)

      • Windows | Selecting Objects (3 min)

    • Mac users, please watch:

      • MAC | Interface Basics (5 min)

      • MAC | Display & Navigation (3 min)

      • MAC | Object Types (4 min 30 sec)

      • MAC | Selecting Objects (3 min 45 sec)

  • Complete a simple poll via Google Forms (Emailed to you 24hr after registration closes)

  • Select one of the three model examples to work with for our first few weeks (Emailed to you three days after registration closes)

* A word from TLUP about the accessibility of Rhino 8 software
As a non-accredited educational institution, TLUP courses are not currently included in Rhinoceros’ umbrella of “schools.” Try as we might to arrange for $195 Educational Licenses for our course participants, at this time, we are unable to do so. For those wishing for an opportunity still to learn this software, we recommend the following:

  • Free 90 day full version download, to test out the software, if you would like to continue using as a paid-for version

  • Purchase the full version for $995, if you are confident you will continue to work with this software

  • Check in with your local accredited institution, about purchasing an educational license through them for $195

  • Hit us up if you’re with Rhino, or an institution and want to help us obtain educational licenses for our participants!
